One of my life regrets
is not sticking up for the kids at school that received so much intense teasing from other classmates. I thought about it, but never put it into action. I was too scared to. I let fear be stronger than my compassion.
School was my safe haven. I needed it to stay that way.
Now I do stick up for others. I am kind and brave. I let my compassion lead me more than my fear. Regardless of who I need to stand up to. One time, before Keoni and I were married, I even stuck up for him to his mom… and even though she did not like it, I would never change it.
I cannot watch others get cut down or hurt and do nothing. I won’t.
I was searching for bloggers to get some inspiration and found Glennon Doyles. It is crazy when you find someone who has such similar views and thoughts as you. She has a way with words though that move the soul. She wrote this post called The Talk that includes a letter to read to your kids at the beginning of the school year.
It is a beautiful letter. I think everyone in the world would benefit from reading it once a year, school or not. Being kind and brave is something that can last a lifetime. Not just in the school walls.
Read the full letter and let it move you to be your kindest and bravest self.
Remember, you can do hard things.
Love and hugs, Steph
