When feeling anxious or having a panic attack… try this grounding tool.
First: Forget about the statement “calm down.” That is not going to be helpful here.
Instead, try:
5 – name 5 things that you can see that are red (blue, white, whatever color you’d like)
4 – name 4 things you can touch
3 – name 3 things you can hear
2 – name 2 things you can smell
1 – name 1 thing you can taste
Bring yourself back to the present moment. What is actually happening? Are you safe right now?
